• Question: how many types of engineer are there?

      Hi – I’ve seen websites listing 30 different fields to study, but it’s probably way more than that. Within electronics, there would be 10s of different sub-disciplines you can get into, with 4 or 5 degrees to start into them.

      How long is a piece of string!?!

      As a basic set of engineering disciplines you could list Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering – but as Rik says there are so many specialisms within each field! For example, within electronic engineering we can consider communication engineering, embedded systems engineering, etc …

      I agree with Alex and Rik, you could be there for days listing off all the titles engineers will give themselves if you give them the chance!
