      Hi,

I’m a software engineer that pretends to be an electronic engineer – or the other way around. I’m never sure.I build computer programs of how chips will work, so everything I do is software engineering but I tell electronic hardware engineers how their stuff will work, without having to do do the hard stuff myself… Great.

I’m a Communications Engineer, although my degree is in Electronics. The Comms stuff came as an option in my later years once I had a basic understanding of analogue and digital electronics, which still comes in useful now even if it isn’t my day job! I don’t think many people end up doing exactly what they set out to do at the very start.

I’m a systems engineer – which basically means I know a little bit about a lots of stuff!

Since I got my PhD I’ve worked in software development, nano-technology, computer hardware design, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and electronic engineering (all in academic departments at various universities).

Mechanical – the best kind…that has to know a bit about all the others to make things work!
