      Hi,

I think there are times in most jobs when you might get bored, but it’s quiet rare for me – I can’t honestly think of a time in the last few years. There might be boring, repetitive parts to the job, but one thing about being an engineer is that we usually try and find a way to do the boring stuff automatically – which can turn it into a fun challenge.

I do sometimes have to stop myself from spending 2 hours to make something to do something automatically that would only have taken 5 minutes.

The only time I ever got bored of my job was when I drifted out of engineering and became a full time project manager watching and tracking engineers doing the job I wanted to do!

No – I get to do something new practically everyday! One of the reasons I became an academic is that I have a short attention span and doing the same thing everyday would bore me to tears!

Whether it’s writing a paper, giving a lecture, or putting together worked examples for a lab class my job has an incredible amount of variety – and when I get bored of all that I can go and talk to students!
