      Hello,
It varies quite a bit. Some years recently I was away for 10 days every 10 weeks going to conferences, and meeting potential customers. That was to Canada, the US, China, Switerzerland, Norway etc.
The next year I don’t think I travelled at all. I expect to be in Italy this month, perhaps Israel later in the year.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Silicon Valley with work – I lived there for 8 months and have often been back.

I travelled a lot with my old job – it’s often necessary to meet people face to face when working with them on a project, as you can only do so much over the phone! Sometimes it’s just nice to actually meet people you’ve been working with for a long time.

Hopefully once my research is published I’ll be able to attend conferences to present my work and meet other researchers in my field. These conferences can be anywhere in the world which can be quite exciting!

I have travelled a lot throughout my career.
As far as overseas secondments go, I spent six months working in Munich for BMW when I worked for Rover/BMW and spent 2 years working in Boston, USA when I worked for Lomabrd Medical developing medical devices. There are always opportunities to travel in engineering -whether it is see suppliers or visit clients, you just have to take them up!

My work is not as exciting as the others! I have been to a few places around the world to academic conferences – Holland, Italy (twice), Hawaii, and Nottingham! 🙂
