  When preparing a lab sheet for one of my classes I put a temperature sensor in the circuit the wrong way round (after not reading the data sheet properly!). It got really hot and burnt my thumb – lesson learned and a mistake I won’t make again in a hurry!

  When we produce a new design, it’s important to make sure it’s tested fully so it does what we expect. It’s very easy to leave that testing to the last minute, but then when you find the problem you have loads of work to – perhaps big bits of the design have to change and you waste loads of time.#
  
  I’ve made that mistake before – rushing to get things out of the door to the customer early and not testing enough, early enough. In the end what we made was so complicated and buggy it needed another 6 months to find all the problems and fix them. From that I learned better ways of designing things so we could test individual bits on their own early, and made sure that when we have to change something it only effects a small part of the design rather than every single part.
