      Hi,
If I thought i could make a difference and was the right person to do it – I’d be very tempted. If I do ever stop this job it might be to go more towards a job that was more use to society. You could argue that letting people communicate is quite important, but it’s not lifesaving.

My colleagues here work on car safety systems – building cars that can really see in case they are going to drive over a pedestrian. It’s likely I’ll be able to help with that and save some lives.

It depends on whether I was the best person for the job! I really enjoy what I do now, and find it hard to imagine doing anything (significantly) different.

Some of the research we do here in the engineering department at Sheffield Hallam genuinely does save people’s lives. One of my colleagues works closely with Sheffield Children’s Hospital to design and develop effective and non-intrusive monitoring equipment for babies in ICU.

Definitely take it – the experience I have had working in medical devices is so rewarding
