      Hi,

I guess it was a teacher a a local school, way back before anybody had home PCs, who somehow had got hold of some “Commodore Pet” computers and ran a club to teach programming. I only met him once or twice through a friend, but that started me off on the rest of my life. There have been several others on the way – teachers who had a passion for what they do and can communicate. I think at the time I took them for granted, (perhaps you take your teachers for granted?) but they started me off to be what I am now.

I think it was probably my Dad. I still remember him bringing home a BBC acorn electron (a very early PC – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_Electron) when I was maybe 8 – and me spending hours on that programming silly things in basic.

I went on a taster course run by imperial college for a-level students and found that my maths and physics skills could be used for something practical.
